Here’s what saysomethingnice.me collects, who can see it, and how long we keep it. We never sell your data.
If you make a page
- Your email address, used to sign you in and, if you want, to tell you about new compliments.
- Your handle, name, photo, and bio. These appear on your public page.
- Your settings, like whether senders may stay anonymous and whether you get emails.
- When you last opened your inbox, and whether you signed up after sending a compliment. We use these only as counts, to understand how many people come back and how people find the site.
You must be 18 or older to make a page.
If you send a compliment
- The message and the name you give. Only the person you sent it to can see them.
- Your email, if you choose to add it. It’s stored with your compliment and isn’t shown to anyone.
- A one-way hash of your IP address that changes every day. We use it only to limit how many messages one person can send. We don’t store your IP address itself.
- A cookie in your own browser, for one day, holding the name you just used. If you decide to make your own page, your name is already filled in.
Compliments are private to the recipient
Compliments are never shown publicly. Only the person they’re for can see them, unless they choose to share one.
How messages are checked
Before a message reaches anyone, automated filters check that it’s a kind compliment. One of those filters sends the message text to an AI model (Claude, from Anthropic) that answers yes or no.
Messages that don’t pass are stored for moderation review, so we can check the filters are working, and are deleted after 90 days. They’re never shown to the person they were sent to.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to count page views and a few events, like a compliment being sent or a QR code being downloaded. Plausible doesn’t use cookies, and we never send it the text of any compliment.
Services we use
- Supabase stores accounts, pages, and compliments.
- Vercel hosts the site.
- Anthropic runs the AI filter.
- Resend sends emails.
- Plausible provides analytics.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account in settings. That permanently deletes your page, your photo, and every compliment you’ve received. You can turn off emails at any time from settings or from the link in any email.
